On May 23rd, “Lean in without falling over” circle in Dubai, the first lean in circle in the GCC, had their monthly 18th gathering, to explore how art therapy can help overcome fears. With the guidance of the guest Art-therapist Sara, 30 ladies coming from diverse backgrounds, leaders, artists, entrepreneurs and mothers, had the chance to experiment with different media of arts to represent their fears with shapes, colors, clay and objects. What seemed to be an adult fun playground was actually a powerful tool to enable each individual to access a new understanding of their fears and the triggers that lie behind them. Expressing fears without having to use words helped reach a deeper layer of the unconscious which led to further questioning about the sources of those fears.
From fear of failure, to fear of commitment, of dependency, fear to trust and let go, fear of not achieving expected outcomes, fear of disappointing others, a myriad of fears was exchanged and discussed among the women, as a debrief to their “Fear-artful” pieces.
Since fear is a personal feeling and emotion, fighting it lies within concluded the ladies, who went back to their art tools one more time,to showcase the super power that each of them needs to embody and ignite, in order to tackle and beat that “monster’ called Fear.
